New York City, the United States finalist to host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, envisioned Flushing Meadows — Corona Park as a center for Olympic ceremonies and rowing events. The design includes the Olympic whitewater and flat-water rowing venues and transforms the pre-existing infrastructure and remnant landscapes of the ’39 and ’64 Worlds Fairs, reunifying Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in a new recreational and ecological landscape.
