McCann Residence Featured in Record Houses

The McCann Residence in Tuxedo Park, New York is one of eight internationally selected projects featured in Record Houses, which highlights the very best of recent residential architecture.

"By manipulating materials and the land," Senior Editor Joann Gonchar states, "the designers merge a rustic house and its distinctive site."

The McCann Residence defines a serpentine approach with an ascending sequence of retaining walls, mined from a nearby quarry. Three enclosed living levels and a series of outdoor terraces climb up the steep site bordered by two massive granite escarpments. The upper garden level—a loft-like glass pavilion—reveals a panoramic vista of Tuxedo Lake and the Ramapo Mountains.
