Marion Weiss and Michael Manfredi featured on Harvard Graduate School of Design Podcast

Marion Weiss and Michael Manfredi join Charles Waldheim in a conversation on Harvard Graduate School of Design’s podcast, Future of the American City. Focusing on their international-contest-winning design for La Brea Tar Pits, Marion and Michael discuss the meaning of the project for Los Angeles—the “City of the Imagination”—and for the world. An enduring public space of revelation and discovery, many of the ambitions and needs of Los Angeles intersect in this Hancock Park site.

Marion and Michael share their thoughts on the magic of tar, the landscapes and cities that inspire them, finding design challenges and opportunities in infrastructure projects, and welcoming the public into open spaces.

The renovation and expansion is conceived as a contemporary Wunderkammer, a treasure chest of stunning fossils and artifacts, from large to microscopic.
Museum of the Earth
Set within the hillside and adjacent to the existing research facility, the museum is organized into two parallel and interconnected buildings.
Brooklyn Botanic Garden Visitor Center
The Visitor Center provides a legible point of arrival and orientation, an interface between garden and city, culture and cultivation.
