WEISS/MANFREDI shortlisted for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art international design competition
WEISS/MANFREDI is honored to be shortlisted for the international design competition to expand and evolve the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Offering free admission to all, Nelson-Atkins is recognized internationally for its extensive collection of Asian art, European and American paintings, photography, modern sculpture, African, Native American and Egyptian galleries, and is the cornerstone of the flourishing Kansas City arts district. The "Museum for All" competition will be the biggest investment in the arts in Kansas City in recent years and calls for a new addition that will harmonize with the museum's original Beaux Arts monument for the arts, Steven Holl's 2007 Bloch building, and the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park. This ambitious project will focus on strengthening the connectivity and flow of the museum, adding more educational programming, and making the museum a more open and inviting place for all.
WEISS/MANFREDI is proud to be working alongside a team of world-class consultants for this competition: Landscape Architecture firm SCAPE, Spatial Designers WeShouldDoItAll, Structural Engineer Severud, Sustainability consultant Atelier Ten, MEP/FP Engineer Jaros, Blum, & Bolles, and Civil Engineers Taliaferro & Browne. Other firms on the shortlist are Kengo Kuma & Associates, Renzo Piano Building Workshop, Selldorf Architects, Studio Gang, and WHY Architecture.
The shortlisted firms will showcase their unique design perspectives at a public community event hosted by the museum on December 12. The winning firm will be announced Spring 2025.
