WEISS/MANFREDI selected to lead transformative projects for the New York Botanical Garden

The New York Botanical Garden has selected WEISS/MANFREDI Architecture/Landscape/Urbanism as the lead architect for the Garden’s planned redesign of its Museum Complex and Mosholu Entrance & Welcome Center. These two transformational projects are in one of the most utilized areas of NYBG’s National Historic Landmark site and will create a more seamless visitor experience that inspires the public through the beauty and wonder of plants, in reimagined ways.

“The New York Botanical Garden is thrilled to collaborate with WEISS/MANFREDI as the lead architect on these exciting, once-in-a-generation projects,” said Jennifer Bernstein, Chief Executive Officer and The William C. Steere Sr. President of the New York Botanical Garden. “These new spaces will add an entirely new dimension to the experience of visiting NYBG and will enable us to teach more people of all ages about the amazing world of plants.”

“We are deeply honored to work with the New York Botanical Garden on this transformative project,” said Design Partners Marion Weiss and Michael Manfredi. “It is a rare and meaningful opportunity to reimagine the Garden as both a vibrant community hub and a world-class museum—where nature and architecture converge to connect with its history, welcome the Bronx community and beyond, and celebrate the beauty of this extraordinary institution."

WEISS/MANFREDI will work with NYBG to transform the internal space of the Mertz Building—the heart of the Museum Complex—to function as a truly interactive plant science museum and learning space for visitors and an inspiring workspace for NYBG employees.

With this project, WEISS/MANFREDI and NYBG will fulfill the original 1899 vision for the Museum Complex, as the thriving research home of the world-renowned NYBG Science team and a dynamic public space for all to explore the rich and complex world of plants and fungi.
