Olympic Sculpture Park Featured in "White Cube, Green Maze" at the Carnegie Museum of Art

WEISS/MANFREDI's Seattle Art Museum: Olympic Sculpture Park is featured in the exhibition White Cube, Green Maze: New Art Landscapes opening September 22, 2012 at the Carnegie Museum of Art. Curated by Raymund Ryan, White Cube, Green Maze will be exhibited in Pittsburgh until January 13, 2013 and will be on view at the Yale School of Architecture Gallery February 14, 2013 - May 13, 2013.

The exhibition features original process drawings by Michael Manfredi and Marion Weiss and two large-scale conceptual models of the Sculpture Park conveying its unique reciprocity of landform and art. Newly commissioned photographs of the park by Dutch photographer Iwan Baan present the simultaneous impact of art, infrastructure, landscape, and urban life.

White Cube, Green Maze presents six innovative institutions dedicated to the experience of culture and nature and endeavors to explore the possibilities of art sites emerging from collaborations across a range of artistic and architectural approaches. These projects distance themselves from traditional, monolithic, "white cube" gallery spaces and fuse inventive architecture and landscape design with radical conceptual and installation art. The sites featured in the exhibition include the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle, WA; The Raketenstation, a former NATO missile base in Germany with buildings by Tadao Ando, Alvaro Siza Veira and others; the Benesse Art Site Naoshima located on an island in Japan's Inland Sea and containing built work by Kazuyo Sejima, Ryue Nishizawa, and Tadao Ando; Inhotim, near Belo Horizonte Brazil with built projects by Arquitectos Associados and others in the landscape by Roberto Burle Marx; the Jardn Botnico at Culiacn, Mexico with interventions by Tatiana Bilbao; and the Grand Traiano Art Complex in Italy with design by Johnston Marklee. An accompanying book authored by Ryan features critical essays, a survey of each site, and photography by Iwan Baan.
