Weiss/Manfredi at the Seoul Biennale
Weiss/Manfredi were thrilled and honored to have two projects featured in the Global Cities exhibition at the 2023 4th Seoul Biennale with the theme "Land Architecture, Land Urbanism." The biennale looks into Seoul's complicated relationship with urban development and traditional rural areas in the past 100 years, and it posits forth the question: How can Seoul reconnect the city to its land in the next 100 years?
The Global Cities exhibition invites projects from around the world that weave together private urban densities and public natural landscapes. Through this exhibit, the Seoul Biennale hopes to spark conversations about "land urbanism" not just for the city of Seoul but for cities throughout the globe.
Weiss/Manfredi’s exhibition kiosk features Seattle Olympic Sculpture Park and Hunter’s Point South Waterfront Park. Both projects connect cities to their waterfront, implementing flood protection while restoring natural habitats and offering open space for the broad public. By weaving architecture, landscape, and infrastructure together, we imagine an alchemy that transcends the limits of the singular architectural object and looks instead for opportunities to create connections and invent new waterfront territories for public life.
